Teachers in the province's French and English Catholic school systems say they're going ahead with plans to walk off the job in all schools.
Meanwhile some public high school teachers will also hold a walkout at nine school boards as part of their union's ongoing series of rotating, one-day strikes. The job action comes after the government capitulated on its earlier demands to increase class sizes and requirements for mandatory e-learning.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce has said the change should prompt all four major teachers' unions to return to the bargaining table. Union members from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation and Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association are planning a demonstration at the provincial legislature, which is set to get underway this morning.
Because the offer was not a real one. Please report responsibly.
Parents are pissed off at the teachers and their so called unions, they need to be locked out, no pay, or completely laid off and hire non greedy people without an arsehole union.
These headlines are terrible
Ontario $80+/yr teachers are holding out for 1% wage incr. Wow.
It’s for the kids!!
Its all about money thats all has ever been
Giving the big finger to the incompetent bumbling Ford nation dummkopf politicians.
Yes the minister of Ed did say this...but has not brought this to the table....be impartial on your tweets
Both sides are so predictable. JUST GET A DEAL DONE.
Teachers Unions, always with the best intentions of the children in mind....
It wasn’t an offer. Offers are brought to the negotiating team so that specific details are clear to both sides. This was a stunt to try to win parent support. Epic fail.
As they should ! My family stands behind you
it's about the kids...not the money apparently
Lecce is lying and only had his news conference because he got caught lying to the Labour Board and Parents. Teachers are fighting for the cuts to be removed not an increase in wages and benefits like Lecce says. Teachers pay out of pocket over $2500/yr for their benefits.
There’s been no new offer, only media conferences and tweets. Reverse the cuts. Reinstate special ed funding for more than 1 year. Cap class sizes. What Lecce has ‘offered’ is only a smokescreen. Read between the lines people.
Even after 5 months the unions obviously won't agree to anything. Time for back-to-work legislation is NOW. fordnation must impose a settlement contract that the taxpayers can live with. What are you waiting for, Doug?
Assholes!
Lock them out!
As always, teachers unions using children as pawns in their negotiations
Right now we have Coronavirus going around. Sad thing is, Ford cut sick days for teachers. Schools are full of sick people. He didn’t think too well on that. That’s how everything spreads. From schools to homes, to community. Ford doesn’t support Public Health.
53 more days of school and then a long summer break. It’s always about the 💰💰💰💰
something has got to give....
Time for the government to take the 1% off the table wage freeze.
Please ask union heads is it about the students? 🤨 of course not we all knew that a long time ago
Offer wasnt on the table its was said i the media only
So it is not concessions they are after but 100% things their way?
Very important note to this title. This is NOT an offer. Offers are put on the negotiating table, NOT behind the podium, for the media. Sflecce needs to put his big boy pants on and come to the negotiating table.....he still hasn’t been there for 1 second
Teachers are going way to far I am sick of listening to these spoiled brats want more and more
Your teacher is the best at something but it’s not teaching. Seniority over merit means your kid doesn’t get the best education. onpoli onted AlwaysStriking
As they should ! We stand behind you
Greed on full display even for a low IQ fool to see
Here are the ‘offer’ facts. Put them in a headline. CutsHurtKids onted onpoli
The unions are greedy as the Gvt is inviting them to the table. They want more and more. It is more for the money than anything else.
I don't blame the teachers. They face a $500 fine for every strike day they don't participate in. I blame the greedy union bosses!
