A new study that analyzes data from more than 50,000 amateur stargazers finds that artificial lighting is making the night sky about 10 per cent brighter each year.

Stargazer Dave Cooke observes an unusual placement of the Milky Way, over a frozen fish sanctuary in central Ontario, north of Highway 36 in Kawartha Lakes, Ont., March 21, 2021. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Fred ThornhillA new study that analyzesfinds that artificial lighting is making the night sky about 10 per cent brighter each year.

“If you can still see the dimmest stars, you are in a very dark place. But if you see only the brightest ones, you are in a very light-polluted place," he said. Kyba and his colleagues gave this example: A child is born where 250 stars are visible on a clear night. By the time that child turns 18, only 100 stars are still visible.

Prior studies of artificial lighting, which used satellite images of the Earth at night, had estimated the annual increase in sky brightness to be about 2 per cent a year. The satellites are also better at detecting light that scatters upward, like a spotlight, than light that scatters horizontally, like the glow of an illuminated billboard at night, said Kyba.

OMG, the stargazers might actually leave the urban environment to view the stars. The average person with two brain cells knows that illumination of the night sky inhibits the viewing of the night sky. QUIT TRYING TO GASLIGHT THE PUBLIC WITH THIS NONSENSE.

Wow breaking news CTV. Should be pay more taxes to help with light pollution?

Oh please.

We were warned about facism in the form of Liberalism. They would tax the light pollution from the stars and the sun then gaslight you into guilt... wait they already are.

Yay, a “light tax” for Trudeau to consider

And we are back to ClimateScam .. let’s clean earth by make sure poverty is eradicated which would help people not worry about food/shelter tomorrow but worry about a clean healthy environment

Looks like CTV's check mark will be turning grey soon lol.

After the announcement of internet termination for Thursday and Friday, the IRGC has surrounded the city of Zahedan, blocked all the roads leading to Zahedan and established a checkpoint. We are worried. There are always big protests on Fridays. MahsaAmini IRGCterrorists
