Trudeau’s climate strategy a master class in greenwashing

OTTAWA—Spring is over. In Canada this means that wildfire season has started, and it will soon pick up speed. Evacuations will kick in, and it’ll get hard to breathe the air. That is the new normal. So is the culture of excuses, blame games, outright denials, and fatalistic calls for adaptation strategies. Wildfires are just one symptom of the wavering by Canadian politicians to avoid taking decisive action on climate change .

On a per-capita basis, Canada is among the worst polluters in the world. Our contributions to limit global warming to 1.5 Celsius are effectively zero. These are the outcomes of the Trudeau government’s promise to create a green, clean future. We could turn to the Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for psychological relief. Unfortunately, he has gone beyond greenwashing. He refuses to even mention the words 'global warming.
