Prime Minister Justin Trudeau meets with Alberta Premier Jason Kenney in his office on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Thursday, May 2, 2019. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Sean KilpatrickOTTAWA – After a fractious election campaign, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's next steps must involve focused action on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and reconfiguring the equalization formula in Alberta or risk further alienation from the West, says a political strategist in Saskatchewan.
Monday night’s election results saw the Liberals lose all five of their MPs in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including Amarjeet Sohi and Ralph Goodale, which means their cabinet roster lacks Western voices. The two issues that should be at the top of the new prime minister’s office priority list, according to Miley: following through on the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline and rejigging the equalization formula.
"We purchased it for a reason," said Morneau. "We now see how it can help us accelerate our clean energy transition by putting any revenues that we get from it into a transition to clean energy. We think that is the best way we can move forward in our current context." In an interview on CTV News on Thursday, former leader of the Reform Party of Canada, Preston Manning, said it’s a culmination of issues at the root of the West’s frustration with Ottawa.
The kids lawsuit might decide things are different when it hits the courts.
Stephen Harper was PM from 2006 to 2015 and didn't get these oh so important pipelines built & he's the good guy in AB? In one term JT gets the process going & buys a pipeline to build out & sell & he's the bad guy? Some explaining required.
Transpipesmatter.
Order immediate construction start of it & Energy East, and immediately scrap equalization rip-off of multi $billions from Alberta to Quebec.
Wait. Even our mountains identify as Trans now?
And when he acts on it and gets a tiny fraction of love from Alberta, he will get hatred in B.C. It’s lose-lose. He shouldn’t have bought it.
How does he plan to compensate the Lower Mainland when the inevitable spills ruins it?
Liberals have created a constitutional crisis and now who will they blame🤪
Nope. Kenney wrote the equalization formula and the west of BC doesn't want the pipeline
It's hard to act when your strength is virtue signaling.
Of course he needs to work on the Trans Mountain! Quebec needs their annual 6.7 billion yearly payment...they are suffering don't you know?
Jt will continue with his arrogance and spoiled little boy ways. He has learned nothing.
