Toronto mayor slams 'anti-fun police' cracking down on seniors gambling with pocket change at rec centres

The entrance fee to play was reportedly $1.25 before the complaint was made. The seniors were then told their activity was under review and the fee was lowered to $0.25 in the meantime.

“We should be doing everything possible to ensure our community centres are welcoming places for everyone, especially our seniors,” he said. I am sure if there is any danger of Las Vegas-style gambling breaking out en masse in our community centres we will know about it. In the meantime I will be speaking to some of the seniors involved to offer an apology from the Mayor & to tell them we are fixing this immediately.

Ridiculous can they take anymore fun away from seniors, whoever complained get a life and leave them be!!

It may be pocket change for working people. But for seniors wanting to fit in, it could be a vice. That's why it's illegal. Good for the Police Officer for standing up for people who can't stand up for themselves. Selfish lawmaker!

Safe to walk the streets now...😒

Hey it’s another click bait misleading headline and non story

Imagine if you will it being safer to bust seniors for betting quarters than actually go after the gangs that are killing each other.

Gambling laws are a pigouvian tax on a hobby, which are not terribally needed and should be abolished. When I was in grade school I couldn't run a raffle for a charity organization I ran because it was considered 'gambling'. These laws are not needed and harmful.

Must have been some anal retentive busybody!😠

🏴keep gambling.

The Conservatives demand the investigation themselves. Then make ads like this; self perpetuating their own hyperbolic non-sense. Talk about wasting people time and tax payer money to score cheap political points.
