Toronto Mayor John Tory sat down with a local cycling advocacy group Wednesday in an effort to diffuse tensions between cyclists and police in High Park.

In recent weeks, tensions have risen between the two groups – with cyclists claiming Toronto Police Services is participating in an unfair “enforcement blitz” against speeding bikers, and police claiming their presence in the park is to ensure everyone’s safety.while at the intersection of Centre Road and Colborne Lodge Drive in the parkstating they met with the mayor to “discuss evidence-based policy and design solutions.

The use of the ongoing StreetSmartsTO partnership with the City to provide education and cycling ambassador supports in the park to educate people and other organizations about these interventions, in place of police enforcement. “While we will always prioritize traffic safety, including cyclists’ safety, the service is not engaged in an enforcement blitz meant to solely target cyclists. That said, the TPS does take community complaints seriously and is monitoring the situation in High Park; where officers see cycling behaviour that risks public safety, they have the discretion to lay charges,” they said.

He says, while a solution is needed for when pedestrians and drivers are in conflict, it won’t come from over-policing.

If only JT had the brains to do this back in January…imagine…

Cyclists need to suck it up. They don't own roads and trails the way they like to think they do. Tory shouldn't be meeting with them.

More enforcement please.

Cyclists esp the ones in Toronto are the worst

Lol cyclists are such idiots We are vehicles! *proceeds to break every fucking traffic law*

They don’t pay insurance and are arguing why they need to follow the same laws as people who pay to use Ontario roads…..so stupid

Nobody needs a bike, when you could just walk. Bike injuries are the leading cause of bike related injuries when injured while biking.

Everyone needs to follow rules of the road all of us are responsible for all road users safety all

So government officials will sit down with protesters now 🤡

Just a bunch of Tour de France wannabes going through midlife crises. Get a life. highpark

The TPS14Div need to park themselves at any of the four corners at Tecumseh and Richmond and fine all the cyclists that run the stop sign, which is all of them!!!!!!!!!! It’s ridiculous. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

That's weird. Isn't he supposed to call them white supremacists and freeze their bank accounts instead?

'The implementation of off-peak times during car-free hours specifically for people on bikes to ride and train at speed. '----- that's ridiculous. The park at all times is for everyone!!!!

Happy to see cyclists finally getting ticketed. They are reckless

I’m glad cyclists are getting tickets….What makes them special that they can’t respect the rules of the road….Like cars I think people who ride bikes out on the roads should be licensed and pay a yearly fee…why should my tax dollars go to paving bike lanes for these clowns.

How Toronto cyclists get the ear is unbelievable. Go anywhere and see numerous bikes not even touch a brake pad as they go through stop signs and intersections.

When you have a decades long war on the car you’re going to have entitled, whining, cyclists complain.

So 16 tickets were issued to cyclists over 22 months around high park. Is this what the cyclists are protesting? Really?

If they can't follow the rules of even stopping at stop sign getting off walking acdoss no bells on bike they should be banned. Large groups cycling should be banned. Single file only ...😡😡

Do cyclist pay a fine from speed cameras in school zones.......answer no!!

So let me get this straight they want to be classed differently than a vehicle. Treat stop signs as yield signs, special fast lanes for cyclists. Are they drunk and who would pay for these changes. Ridiculous

Until someone hits a police officer with their car, the police will do nothing. advice

Not just high park. Please enforce this across Ontario and the country

Of course he does

Tell the cyclists they need to register

Maybe they can start enforcing the red light runners too.

Is Tory going to tell these cyclists to follow the rules of the road or will he overlook the rule breaking like with his sky high crime rate in that city?

Cyclists want to be on the roads, but dont want to obey the rules of the road.

Cyclists on the news saying they are protesting Police writing tickets for infractions. As the camera pans to the bike path, a group of 10 bikes blew the stop sign and almost hit a pedestrian trying to cross the road. Tory cowtows as usual.

Cyclists (NDP radical activists) want to OWN not share the roads Plus, never ending bike lanes, permanent Active TO, lane restrictions and no laws that apply to them. They have an arrogant Antifa/Isis vibe Pure Narcissists. highpark CycleToronto

Are all cyclists this militant. or just the ones who got the door prize in the past?😜

Ban cyclists from wearing spandex, it's squeezing their brains

Why do cyclists believe they have more rights than the rest of us.

The tension is not just with police but with any normal pedestrian or car driver who has to deal with their failure to obey stop signs, speeding on sidewalks etc...

Throw those protestors in jail. Roads are for cars. Not bikes.

Dundas Square now littered with junkies, what's your plan there John?
