In recent weeks, tensions have risen between the two groups – with cyclists claiming Toronto Police Services is participating in an unfair “enforcement blitz” against speeding bikers, and police claiming their presence in the park is to ensure everyone’s safety.while at the intersection of Centre Road and Colborne Lodge Drive in the parkstating they met with the mayor to “discuss evidence-based policy and design solutions.
The use of the ongoing StreetSmartsTO partnership with the City to provide education and cycling ambassador supports in the park to educate people and other organizations about these interventions, in place of police enforcement. “While we will always prioritize traffic safety, including cyclists’ safety, the service is not engaged in an enforcement blitz meant to solely target cyclists. That said, the TPS does take community complaints seriously and is monitoring the situation in High Park; where officers see cycling behaviour that risks public safety, they have the discretion to lay charges,” they said.
He says, while a solution is needed for when pedestrians and drivers are in conflict, it won’t come from over-policing.
All the B rolls from these interviews with cyclist supports shows a bunch of cyclist rolling through stop signs. these people to lazy to follow the rules of the road. And instead of following the rules they want to have special times during the day where they can break the law.
Having been knocked to the ground 3 times in the last 2 yrs by cyclists not observing the rules of the roads, I say F around and find out.
HighPark needs to be locked down before we have a serious monkey pox outbreak Drones is a good solution to this problem 🌀
Tory has to go. He has ruined this city. It’s dirty, unsafe. he is doing a horrible job at helping out the most vulnerable. Shame on him.
How often do you see them in the left lane or in a left turn lane acting like they're cars? No need for the mayor to sit down with them. The law is the law. Just wait till they need insurance. Then the real crying will begin.
These cyclists admit to running stop signs, but still complain. “What about cars, what about cars!”, they whine. Bicycles are vehicles under the HTA and are subject to the same rules. Happy that they are facing enforcement action. Despite what they believe, they’re not special
Stop signs are for everyone, that simple
Maybe if they stopped riding like every road and trail was the fn tour de France with no traffic rules they'd get less tickets
On TV they should groups of people riding through stop signs. No wonder they get hit by cars. They ride bikes like they are tanks. I say good work Toronto Police and keep going after them.
I rode a mountain bike for several yrs with TPS I didn’t Police the park, however several other parks I use to educate, unless you talked yourself into a ticket My riding career ended with a doorprize, fractured sternum (surgery metal plate), sprained wrist, broken helmet educate
What's there to defuse? They're always crying about how they should be treated like a vehicle and blah blah blah. Follow the damn rules too then
Cyclists are out of control in T.O.
Cyclists are the most privileged, ego driven people in Toronto.
Tensions ? Only on the cyclists! Break the law , pay the piper ... Simple as that. It's not a friggn race. Damn cyclists think you're so special. Constant rule breakers.
