Toronto police, 911 dispatchers need more confidence in crisis workers, advocate says

Even though Gerstein was able to add 18 employees for the TCCS, the centre operates at capacity. Overall, the centre itself receives 40,000 calls annually.

Amanda Coombs is a TCCS access facilitator at Gerstein. Of the 40,000 calls the centre receives annually, she can still recall one from a man who told her he wanted to take his own life."He was feeling very hopeless and he just needed someone to come out to speak with him," says Coombs, who doubles as a crisis worker when needed.

TCCS clients receive follow-up assistance for three months. Clients choose when they want checkups because autonomy is empowering, she says. Amanda Coombs and Akinyemi Akinlade from the Gerstein Crisis Centre are part of the Toronto Community Crisis Service, a city-run pilot project that offers a non-police response to mental health calls that don't involve crime or a threat to public safety.

C_Somos She doesn't seem to be wrong about that. Justice system? I think you mean pleb suppression system. She's definitely right. We don't have a justice system. The system is ridiculously flawed with easy to find loopholes that Kindergartens would find, when it's blatantly obvious that they are guilty. The only form of justice that exist is getting it by any means necessary.
