Toronto General Hospital under critical care bed alert amid staff shortages

In an email to CP24 Tuesday, a UHN spokesperson confirmed that Toronto General Hospital is under a “critical care bed alert” affecting their medical-surgical, coronary and cardiovascular intensive care units.

While under the alert, Kim said, the hospital is actively triaging patients that require specialized ICU care and is working collaboratively with Criticall — a ministry-funded organization that helps ensure patients in the province can access urgent and emergent care — to ensure patients “get the most appropriate care.”

The critical care bed alert at one of Toronto's busiest hospitals comes as the Ontario health-care system struggles to keep up with demand.that she is working with stakeholders in the health-care system to try and solve staffing shortages and other problem hampering care.Dr. Raghu Venugopal, an emergency room physician who works at three GTA hospitals, told CP24 that the strain on the system is plain to anyone seeking treatment.

Sure glad fordnation is spending $8.2 billion on highway to save seconds. Who wouldn't want that compared to lives.

If healthcare was private, there would be more doctors and nurses. Yet everyone still wants 'free' not so free healthcare.

As far as I know nurses are working, but not in hospitals. They're in Public Health, agencies, independent contractors, more money, better schedule, and working conditions.

All these comments about unvaccinated Healthcare workers aren't accurate. People just left the industry altogether. The money isn't worthy the risks, insane workload and terrible schedule. The job really sucks!!!

Fire unvaxxed staff, vaxxed staff has to take on double workload which causes burnout. Senior staff retired so there's no one to train new staff. No one wants to go into healthcare because of the lack of pay. But at least Ford is building a new hospital.🙃

Its not COVID patients filling critical care beds (they are 4% occupancy) & its not because unvaxxed healthcare staff were fired (maybe 1% overall); its because we don't have enough doctors & nurses. Period. Why? Tough jobs, two yrs of pressure, insufficient pay for workload...

How are they to get their staff back? So many people have moved on .
