Top Tory contenders will fight carbon tax if they win leadership race GlobePolitics

Peter MacKay, who is running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, said he would 'roll back the Trudeau carbon tax.'The key contenders in the Conservative leadership race say they plan to keep fighting the federal carbon tax, if they win the party’s top job.

In a statement, Mr. MacKay said he would “roll back the Trudeau carbon tax.” In a separate statement, Mr. O’Toole said he would “scrap the federal carbon tax and focus on how Canada can become a global leader in zero-carbon technology like nuclear.”When Ms. Gladu first floated a leadership bid in December, she said she didn’t think it would be “profitable to try to take away” the carbon tax, noting “Canadians have said that they will accept it.

Ruling out a carbon tax removes a key tool for tackling climate change and comes as Canadians put an increased focus on it. According to a December poll from Nanos Research, more than one-third of Canadians believe the environment should be the top priority in 2020. On Wednesday, he ruled out a leadership bid, telling The Globe he concluded,"There’s no path to victory.” He said the next leader needs an “ambitious agenda to deal with our subpar environmental and economic performance.”

globepolitics 55% of voters said climate change was their number 1 priority. Let’s congratulate PM Freeland on her landslide victory in 2023!

globepolitics ...and the liberals believe Climate Change is an hourly occurance, leading to climate armageddon in a few years. The obvious solution is to tax Canadians (1.6% GHG’s) and redistribute the money... Curious why they aren’t taxing imports from India and China..60% GHG’s..

globepolitics LMFAO

globepolitics It’s ineffective emissions have risen since the tax came in, the definition of stupid is to keep doing the same things and expect different results right?

globepolitics Remember when carbon taxes were their idea from when they had ideas?

globepolitics I think that is a mistake but considering much of the base is in AB and SK might not have much other choice. I just hope other provinces follow BC's lead and adopt one which has worked well in BC and it can be revenue neutral too thus cutting income tax rates.

globepolitics Good.

globepolitics These guys just dont get it!

globepolitics Clearly learned nothing from the previous election.

globepolitics Good grief...

globepolitics Old news from an old Con.

globepolitics That's a good start Be nice to hear more about serious policy and less about childish stupidity like parades though

globepolitics Of course, they are the Regressive Conservatives after all. “Nobel Prize-winning economist says carbon taxes are the solution to climate change”

globepolitics I think that Peter McKay is a shoe-in but I wouldn’t vote for any Neanderthal party that thinks that climate change is a hoax.

globepolitics Can they also fight GST

Ex-Liberal Minister Doesn’t Understand Tory Claims Of ‘Blatant’ CronyismFormer Liberal minister 'quite at a loss to understand' Tory claims of cronyism cdnpoli Whether it's Eurasia's contract in return for hiding Gerald Butts after SNC Lavalin, or Leblanc's family fishing contracts, or dozens of contracts just like this one, corruption is so ingrained and pervasive in the Liberal culture, it's simply ignored now. I would laugh also. Conservatives , yet again, know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
