Water-use restrictions imposed; about 32 centimetres of snow fell in Ucluelet-Tofino area Saturday, more than anywhere else on the Island

Heavy snow brought down trees over power wires Saturday evening, affecting about 2,300 customers, including the power systems that run Tofino’s water supply.

Tofino issued a Stage 4 water restriction at 6:39 a.m. Sunday after the failure of two critical backup generators at its water reservoir. Stage 4 restrictions restrict water use to only drinking and sanitation purposes. The district also activated the Emergency Operations Centre at Level 1, saying restrictions have been initiated to maintain flows for emergencies such as fires.
