It has been nine months since Newmarket Ont. mother Arzo Wahab suddenly lost her "beautiful, smart and outgoing" daughter Sophia Farah.
"That's where everything went really wrong," Wahab told CTV News Toronto. "We saw the resident doctor and we told her everything, we said she is puking green, which is a sign of infection." "They just keep telling me she has the flu. We asked her so many times to do tests but we kept getting brushed off. I told the doctor that her eyes don’t look the same – this is my kid, I knew she wasn’t well."
The medical documents show that the family was told to return to the hospital in four days if Sophia's fever or other systems didn't improve."She started making these choking noises in the middle of the night," Wahab said through tears. "My husband woke up and called the police. Officers did CPR on her and took her to the hospital but they couldn't find a heartbeat.
The CPSO said that none of the physicians involved in Sophia's case have been suspended while the investigation is pending.The college was unable to confirm further details while the case is under investigation.Wahab said she feels the health-care system failed her daughter, and that if doctors ran tests on Sophia in hospital, she would still be alive.

I think the entire health system needs education about Strep A and its symptoms. This happened to me after I gave birth to my second child 2 years ago while I was in the hospital. What happened to this little girl is pure negligence.
This is one of the many reasons you need to record every single interaction with any so called professional. The arrogance and self entitlement they have cause more damage then most are aware of and without proof they will get away with it.
Strep throat is deadly. When I was at the stage this child was at (I wrote it off as the flu and a sore throat) the doctor told me I could have died, and that I should have visited the clinic sooner. I'm in Canada too, not all doctors are rubbish.
I believe it they told me my mom just had a common cold and to take her home to rest but I refused and 2days later she was on life support and spent 2months in the hospital. Doctors don't even run tests anymore they can see through you now apparently. Smh R.i.p

When my daughter was 2 we had a similar issue. fever&lethargic told all 4 times she has the flu.Gave her a suppository, a popsicle and sent us on our way. 5th time I took her to emerge & demanded testing. Turns out a bite through clothes gave her a blood infection. Almost died

I was congested and with headaches and face pain and at the Royal Victoria Hospital à nose, ear, specialist told me it was all in my head! My mother’s kidney specialist ask me why were my eyes so red , he told me to see an allergist! And it was not in my head I had allergies!!

That was a gut wrenching story to read. Those parents did everything they could to get their daughter help. The clinic doctor and emergency room doctor understood how sick this little girl was. How the hell could the senior doctor dismiss this child WITHOUT EVEN SEEING HER?!!

I went to the hospital earlier this year with a huge rash and they sent me home, it was cellulitis and nearly went septic. Then, they gave me meds I was allergic to and when I told them they said I can keep taking them or stop but either way I’d be back in the hospital

Same thing happened to my husband, was told it was the flu,go home. It was streptococcus, turned in pneumonia, when that wasn’t treated it turned into bacterial meningitis all in 24 hours. He survived but not without live long issues. It could have been detected by a throat swab
My daughter was sent home twice w/ flu at age 2.5. The third day in a row I went back & she was admitted. I was told by one hospital why did I wait so long? Meanwhile the other hospital sent me home twice. Parents need to be insistent when they know something is off w/their kid.

Outrageous. My son was hours away from choking to death during H1N1, after i was turned away 5 times, even by CHEO, and i cannot imagine the nightmare this family lives with every day.
This should never have happened and needs investigation. I know the wait was long at Sick Kids but that was the best place to be and she should have stayed and put on more pressure and panicked. As a parent you KNOW when something is very wrong.

This is what the great Canadian health care system is. I can bearly walk from back pain. Went to see 3 different doctors. Go to PT and Chiro. Nothing helped! Went to emergency demanded a rec from so I could pay to get a MRI done my self. This system is broken. Not working.
Heartbreaking. Years ago I had the same illness. I was sent home from hospital bc it was “the flu.” My dad drove me 3 hours to another city because he knew someone who worked in a hospital there. I underwent emergency surgery, aggressive antibiotics + very nearly died.

It makes me furious when doctors say, ' It is only the flu'. High temperatures must be carefully monitored and treated ever 4-6 hours and most often infections develop in throat and ears, sinus which require antibiotics. Do not go to clinics.They don't care like a family doctor.

There are many people who are not tested in our hospital system and are told to go home and if it's not better come back in a couple of days! This case is SO TRAGIC!
