Who is Sir Allan Napier MacNab and why are we celebrating his birth — on this date in 1798 — onWell, Sir Allan was one of the most crucial political leaders in pre-Confederation Canada. And, he was even Joint-Premier of the United Province of Canada for two years a decade or so before Confederation in 1867. A veteran of service in the War of 1812, where he saw action in some of that war’s greatest battles, MacNab was a legendary lawyer and land speculator. One of his quotes has gone down in history.
