Only four years after winning a remarkable 208 seats , Prime Minister John Diefenbaker’s Progressive Conservatives were re-elected on this date in 1962. However, Dief’s government had lost 89 seats and found itself reduced to a minority status in the Commons. They never regained any political momentum and Dief’s ultimate defeat came less than a year later, at the hands of Lester Pearson.
