Tips for spotting Nazis: The obvious signs of German soldiers that Veterans Affairs missed in their VE-Day tribute

There was just one little problem with a video Veterans Affairs Canada published — and then quickly deleted — this week to commemorate Allied soldiers on the 74th anniversary of VE-Day: The footage began with Nazi German soldiers.

Veterans Affairs Minister Lawrence MacAulay profusely apologized for the mistake. “This was a completely unacceptable mistake and the video was removed immediately,” he said. “I can assure members that I and the people involved are very concerned and are taking steps to make sure this does not happen again.”

As the soldiers with the Nazi eagles walk by, the video includes a caption saying “More than a million Canadian men and women served in this bitter conflict.”

They are understandably confused. They've been taught that a Nazi looks like a conservative.

This should cause another cabinet minister to resign in order to “spend more time with his family”.

This explains why the Liberals are seeing Nazis and White Supremacists everywhere. They didn’t learn in school which side we were on.

The Wehrmacht and the Nazis were different things. Not all German soldiers were Nazis. The eagle gripping a swastika was standard for all Wehrmacht uniforms. I don't see any SS insignia in the pictures provided. The SS were all Nazis. Stop cheapening the word Nazi.

The entire staff should be made to watch the Canadians arriving.

To be fair, everyone in a uniform looks the same to the Liberal government.

Liberals spot Nazis everywhere, except where there are actual Nazis to be spotted.
