ContributedTIGNISH, P.E.I. — The Tignish Seniors Home Care Co-op is calling on the community for help to raise $600,000 to add 12 long-term care beds to its facility.

The co-op plans to complete the $2.6 million project by year-end, with the first $2 million covered by a mortgage and public funds. The co-op currently provides community care services to seniors in Tignish and surrounding areas, but residents requiring a higher level of care have to leave their community for manor care in another location.

The renovation project includes converting six community care beds into manor care beds and adding a new section with six other manor beds, as well as upgrading the kitchen and adding facilities like a lounge, public washrooms, an office and a consultation room.The co-op is accepting e-transfer donations at
