When Cameron Rose set out for a hike, he ended up in a dangerous faceoff with a man accused of targeting truckers with a rifle. The weapon and the process used to buy it are still legal today, despite Ottawa's promises to crack down

As all this whizzed by, he kept his mind on the road and his Honda’s labouring engine.

It had been a routine run, until sometime around 9 p.m., when a couple drivers crackled over the CB radio complaining of overheating engines. One of the drivers made a quick inspection of his truck and found what he thought was a bullet hole in his radiator. Neither did the police. As they puzzled over the Lomak trucks, reports of shootings farther down the highway flooded in. Truckers came under fire in Prince George, Quesnel and 100 Mile House, indicating the shooter had veered south on Highway 97 toward Vancouver.

By the time he reached the Ford Mountain trailhead, he was feeling tired. He drove the Honda up a short dirt road and then backed his rear bumper up to a well-used firepit shadowed by ancient Western red cedars. He reclined his seat, gave Luna a few pets and started to close his eyes for a quick nap.

A unique aspect of this particular model was its nine-millimetre calibre, a bullet size normally associated with pistols. Receipts show that Mr. Kampos returned the following day at around 2:45 p.m. to buy a Nikon scope for just under $200. The highway shootings began six hours later.Dense forest surrounds the Slesse Memorial Trail near the stretch of highway where the shootings took place. As the driver in the Dodge Caliber stared, Mr. Rose continued to feign sleep.

Time slowed down. He began querying the images coming from his eyes to figure out the danger level. Was it a paint-ball gun? No. A BB gun? No. An airsoft gun? No. This is a fucking rifle, he thought.

suggest fact checking , NS shooter was not 22, It was 13 and 9 Min by arson, and did police release the gun used nope Poly was using a single shot rifle as it was broken, The coroner laid blame on Police NOT the gun, but facts dont matter do they.

Like the shooting in Nova Scotia, few msm outlets would say he did not have a license and the guns were illegal.... nope, hid it from the public to the best of their ability

Uh, loopholes as in most guns used in crimes are illegal guns from the US? This is criminal behaviour, Canada gun laws are already one of the tightest in the world. Go apply and find out what it takes to be a lawful gun owner

What do firearms and 'Journalists' have in common? ...they are both tools. Murder rates don't drop if you ban guns, the way people are killed just changes. Imagine that.

So the system failed, on many levels. A schizophrenic allowed to keep a firearm license, sold a gun by a store even when it was expired- and care that didn’t even notice he was 3000km away?

Loop holes my ass. Stop the scare tactics and bullshit. Please present the evidence that one of them had a PAL. Then explain in detail what it takes to obtain a PAL. Stop the lies, tell the truth. getitright retractthelies

2017?! Isn’t there anything new going on? Nothing to report on...like the gun violence in Toronto? Where are those guns coming from? Who’s doing it? You know news stuff

not loop holes ! laxity in enforcement.

gun lobby ! we have enough laws yet none are enforced. Just call the chief firearms officer and you get the impression that fire arms control is run by gun lovers. Yet if you ask for clarification on some rules you get very clear instructions (for yourself). Gun stores are full !

If you're going to post something as politically charged as this, don't hide it behind an damned paywall

Because the gun lobby is much, much too strong to control.

Hard to emotionally manipulate people concerning loopholes Targeting law abiding gun owners and spreading fear is much more effective for a government that has built their entire brand on exploiting issues to emotionally and psychologically manipulate Canadians

Jane & Finch, affecting this area of the Country with smuggled guns! Nova Scotia Murder of 22 people, with smuggled guns! Nexus drivers smuggle & USA / CDN Mohawk Nation! Might try investigation on real issues & ask forgiveness for slandering Lawful Gun Owners.

1) did the lack of loopholes in laws against shooting people prevent these shootings? 2) banned guns and modifications are so easily acquired illegally all the time. So how is banning things supposed to do anything?

Why don't you focus on the growing gun violence in the city instead of trying to hurt people who follow the law? Why does Canadian media continue to ignore that growing problem & who's causing it?

With the state of the government, and them calling to defund the police I wouldn’t give up my guns. Seriously!
