The ring was stolen from a museum during WW II and has finally been returned to Greece.

The Associated PressA gold Mycenaean-era ring, shown in the photo above, has been returned to Greece decades after it was stolen from a museum during the Second World War.It was the latest in a series of coups by Greek authorities seeking the return of works plundered from the antiquities-rich country — even though an initial effort by the Swedish museum to return the ring apparently fell between the cracks of 1970s bureaucracy.

Greek experts confirmed the identification, and the piece was handed over in Stockholm by Vidar Helgesen, executive director of the Nobel Foundation, to which the ring had been bequeathed by the Hungarian biophysicist. Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni thanked the Nobel Foundation and Swedish authorities for the repatriation, saying it "shows their respect for modern Greece and our constant efforts to fight the illegal trafficking of cultural goods."The ring was discovered in 1927 by Italian archaeologists in a Mycenaean grave near the ancient city of Ialysos on Rhodes. The southeastern Aegean island belonged to Italy until it was incorporated in Greece after the Second World War.

The Greek culture ministry said the gold Mycenaean-era work from Rhodes, decorated with two facing sphinxes, was willingly returned by Swedish officials who provided full assistance with documenting the artifact and its provenance.

OPINION | The ideals and principles that proved Jason Kenney's undoing | CBC NewsIt is much easier to say no without having to provide a reason than to translate ideas into legislation that advances the common good. This proved to be a difficult adjustment for some MLAs and party members. You mean, it wasn't the border blockade he perpetrated? Or his covid denial, and subsequent citizen deaths? It wasn't his budgetary failures? The haphazard cuts to services Albertans expect? It wasn't his aggressive and hateful tone? Maybe, Alberta finally got the joke on them? btaplatt The principles & ideals hahahaha The cheating in multiple elxns? The phony immigration ceremony on public dime for Sun tv pals The abuse of dnd assets for photo ops using jets/lavs & commandeering a frigate while freezing dnd pay increases? More cheating Principles & ideals Gag me with a spoon.

With Kenney's exit, the 'resistance' era is over — but something louder might follow | CBC NewsIn 2018, Maclean’s put five Conservative leaders on its cover and billed them as “the resistance.' The demise of this political effort to push back on Trudeau government policies tells us a lot about the politics of the last few years — but it might also set the stage for a new and fiercer kind of resistance. ‘… it seems fair to wonder whether Conservative parties in Canada can hold together under the pressure of this urge for an even edgier form of conservatism.’ This weathervane politician was never a leader. Another self serving opportunistic chancer.
