Band councillor Devin Bernatchez said there have been several suicides in his community, including his cousin, in the last month

He said he doesn’t know how much funding would be needed to resolve the issue, but noted it’s a priority.

“Come into our reserves, come into our communities. Don’t be scared to come on the rez, we invite you. Come see it for yourself and see how we can help people out.”“There are challenges when it comes to mental health across this province, but I do recognize there’s additional challenges in our remote communities because of access to services,” said the minister.

“The minister should ask himself in the mirror this question: to the families that lost loved ones, did the pillars of life help you?” Vermette said. “Because the people I’ve seen, I haven’t heard anyone talking about Pillars For Life back home where I’ve heard and seen families suffer. I don’t even know if they know what it is.”Article content

covid isn't the only thing causing suicides: the govt has shown since confederation that it doesn't care to treat the first nations w/respect, folx know our own p.m. doesn't respect the first nations, there will never be justice for the first nations in canada and folx know that

It’s the governments response, not the pandemic itself

It's overwhelming to struggle through all of this especially given reduced available mental health services. One bad hospital experience or one negative day-to-day life change such as loss of income can diminish a person's hope entirely. Stay strong. Find alternative resources.

Trudeau makes a lot of people suicidal these days

The government and the media have sparked a suicide crisis. A germ didn’t.

Hope of what I blame Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.

COVID crap has brought out the darkest of thoughts...if you didn't already have depression, you certainly have more understanding now.

COVID is a respiratory illness. I think you meant to say: THE RESPONSE to COVID-19 pandemic has sparked suicide crisis. Lets stick to the facts. I personally know 3 people who committed suicide since last August. It is truly devastating.
