The Mustang from 'Bullitt' just sold for a whopping $4.85 million via drivingdotca

The 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT driven by Steve McQueen in the classic film Bullitt just sold at auction for a record US$3.4 million . After the auction house’s premium is added, the all-in price stands at a whopping US$3.71 million .

McQueen drove the Mustang in arguably the most iconic movie chase of all time, airing it out a bit on the hills of San Francisco. . The surviving vehicle sold to a detective who in turn sold it via a Road & Track classifieds listing to one Robert Kiernan for US$3,500 back in 1977. Kiernan proceeded to use the future-most-valuable-Mustang-on-Earth as his daily driver until the ’80s, when he parked it in his garage with the intention to fix it up later.
