Taking mankind’s first steps on Mars will be a costly and risky endeavour for the first astronauts who will head to the red planet.

This image made available by NASA shows the planet Mars. This composite photo was created from over 100 images of Mars taken by Viking Orbiters in the 1970s. In our solar system family, Mars is Earth's next-of-kin, the next-door relative that has captivated humans for millennia. TORONTO -- Former astronaut Scott Kelly has made four trips to the International Space Station and spent a record amount of time in space.

Orbiting more than 370 kilometres above Earth in the International Space Station is a tough, alien environment for a human body. There’s no gravity to pull fluids out of the brain as there is at home, radiation exposure is far above what we already know can cause cancer and although astronauts work out a couple of hours a day, bones and muscles still quickly lose mass.

Just getting to the red planet would take six months. A full expedition would likely take two to three years. The United States has announced it wants humans to fly by and eventually land on Mars in the 2030s. Considering we don’t really know the health effects of travelling in space for more than six months, is it realistic?

While Scott was in space, some of those samples were preserved for when he returned, others were sent back home on a rocket.

No humans been out in space in the first place. It's impossible to get past the Van Allen Belt as Admiral Bird proved impossible to get any rockets or anythjng past the earths atmosphere. Even a NASA scientist already stated they haven't figured out how to get past van Allen belt

Challenges that will be solved. The moon landings, given the much less advanced technology compared to today's, were likely at least as risky.

We need the Enterprise from all nations all minds focused on one goal to power our spaceship at speed light.....

Not going to happen in any time soon, just goofs like musk pump imo

We can't even get back to the moon ffs.

Thanks tips

As new coronavirus spreads, face masks are flying off shelves—but do they work? The World Health Organization has chosen not to declare a global health emergency over the new coronavirus, but that doesn’t mean people aren't looking into possible precautionary measures. Face masks work to *reduce* the spread of the virus if you're infected. They do little to protect you from getting infected. We have it azz backwards in North America. In many Asian countries, the duty to protect others from infection falls on those infected. Mask wearers heroes Has Dippy in Ottawa put a plan in place or is he too busy selecting socks of Amazon?
