Investing in a cutting board that will, if you treat it right, last a lifetime

While bamboo boards, for instance, are common options, Perron says they simply don’t cut it. She says plastic boards are better than granite and glass or the dreaded marble cutting boards that are guaranteed to shorten the lives of your knives.Article content

“Obviously, the granite countertop say you can cut on this. And, yes, you can, but it’s really bad for knives,” she says. Perron suggests people in the market for a cutting board opt for end grain boards, butcher-block styles assembled with all the wood grains facing upwards. Knifewear, which also has locations in Vancouver, Edmonton and Ottawa, sells its wares online. And its larch wood cutting boards are a customer favourite, earning a 4.9-star rating among buyers. They are hand-made in Cape Breton, N.S. from sustainable wood and treated prior to assembly which, Perron says, makes them more durable.“You get what you pay for. It will last you a lifetime if you take really good care of it,” she says.
