Temporary shelter opens in Salmon Arm; permanent shelter space still sought

Story continues below advertisement

The typically seasonal, Salvation Army-operated shelter that had been open year-round during the pandemic closed in May 2022 and despite efforts to find a replacement, BC Housing has not found a new way forward until now.CMHA-SR will operate the new shelter. CMHA-SR operates a number of housing programs in Salmon Arm, including supportive housing and housing for families and seniors.

“We are pleased that we have been able to secure a temporary space for a winter shelter at 451 Shuswap St.,” Dawn Dunlop, executive director of CMHA-SR, said. “This has been the result of many partners working together. We are excited to open the space and look forward to welcoming and supporting people in our community.”

The space in the Downtown Activity Centre has been leased by BC Housing from Jan. 1 until April 30. Additionally, BC Housing will continue searching for an appropriate permanent shelter location in Salmon Arm.

Damage alleged to salmon spawning grounds by Coastal GasLink pipeline constructionThe commission noted it has not received a formal complaint about the pipeline river crossing but is following up based on the information. Ya right, they’ll say just about anything, they even said lamprey creek is completely gone 😆😆😆 Well Spiecapag is doing the work and they absolutely suck. Not even Canadian based. The management of that contractor are just a bunch of losers. As you can see here. An absolute dumpster fire of a company. Should have been booted from that project two years ago. Brutal company. Also reported that the machines working in the water were doing so to install the isolation (protection). Did anyone present any evidence of smothered eggs, or just conjecture? One machine in a large creek isn't going to produce more sed than a 15mm rain event, which is natural.

How’s the damage by the axe-wielding people? I'm a little confused by this story by Gordon_Hoekstra of VancouverSun. Drilling under creeks and rivers for pipelines is well proven and commonplace. And the right-of-way would have undergone an environmental assessment. Subject to review by intervenors. Why now? Ask how many times mines get shutdown when the runoff and debris get into the river. It happens regularly

Temporary Changes in Place at Health Sciences Emergency Department EntrancesEastern Health is advising of some temporary changes to the emergency entrance at the Health Sciences Centre. ... Judges, lawyers and cops are proof that there is no rule of law in Canada. They do things that would put normal people in jail or have consequences. Local media has ignored this problem ruthlessly and helped these bad actors stay hidden. For example: Is there a place to purchase VOCM mugs!? Newfoundland has become a liberal shithole, quick somebody give da newfies a handout to make them happy again.
