Taliban raise flag above seat of power as U.S. marks Sept. 11 attacks

ISLAMABAD / TORONTO -- On the same day government buildings across the U.S. lowered flags to half-mast, the Taliban raised its flag above the presidential palace in Kabul.

One man who spoke to Reuters offered his blessings to the Taliban if they can bring peace, saying at least now that the U.S. is gone, there is security and the killing has stopped. "It is very good for Pakistan, things like that," Pakistani journalist Haroon Rashid told CTV National News. "[Including] the controversial statement [from the Pakistani prime minister] that [the Taliban] have thrown off the shackles of slavery."
