Ottawa mayoral candidate Mark Sutcliffe is proposing to revitalize Ottawa’s downtown core through building more housing, connecting the LRT with Gatineau, and attracting more events.

In a news release Monday, Sutcliffe said Ottawa is facing “significant challenges” in the downtown core.

He would also continue the city’s plan to reduce patio fees and relax rules that allow sidewalk patios and sidewalk sales for downtown businesses. He added that he would facilitateHe also said he would “reject calls to raise parking fees or introduce ‘congestion charges’ to come downtown.” Finally, Sutcliffe said he would work with the federal government to create a vibrant parliamentary precinct that “serves as a grand national gathering place that invites Canadians and others from around the world to our capital city.”“The ByWard Market used to be the crown jewel of Ottawa, for residents and tourists. Under my leadership, we will restore it to its past glory,” stated Sutcliffe. “We can’t continue to ignore the safety issues that are acutely felt in this neighbourhood.

Wow another puff piece!! Love it, so great how CTV Ottawa decided to become a wing of the Sutcliffe campaign, while misrepresenting candidates who have a real plan for downtown Ottawa!

Revitalization without eliminating R1 zoning is the right plan.

Do you really think more police and cars are going to attract events and people to Ottawa’s downtown core?

We need to get our City fully connected & running on the LRT first. We have a high-tech hub that is yet to be connected to the LRT, & we have a huge community in Barrhaven that needs to be connected. We need to talk about really important things in our own City & then branch out.

If he's elected it well take him four years just to keep Ottawa going so don't look for anything new.

He also wants a judicial inquiry on earlier phases, meaning he will be in court with parties who will eventually very likely be hired to build this fantasy Gatineau line. Which would cost 50-100 million for just a bridge and much more for a tunnel.

Minto presents.

Any candidate care about rural issues?

More top shelf PR-masked-as-journalism from and TedFriendlyGuy

There’s mention of maintaining car free streets in the market do those still exist? Also wonder if balance includes resident concerns of too many bars or is this just about getting rid of homeless ppl?

I'm just relieved not to hear the words 'spend', 'eco', 'bike', 'environmentally' and other things that are impractical for young families living here and trying to make a go of it in a realistic way.

No one wants Mark as our mayor. Go home mark.

He wants to connect lrt with Gatineau but also dismisses many of cmckenney ‘s ideas as not doable b/c of other levels of govt? 🤦🏾‍♀️

Somehow Ottawa land developers brought in the one person in Ottawa more boring than Jim Watson.

Mark continues to drop motherhood statements. ANYBODY can say they support these things, THAT'S NOT A PLAN. He's CLEARLY unqualified.

Three times I asked Mark Sutcliffe what he felt about the Mayor refusing to take a call from Parliament Security. He has yet to respond. What should an Ottawa voter think about that lack of response from Sutcliffe?

Telford: Homelessness for women and gender-diverse people in Ottawa is getting worseCity council declared a housing and homelessness state of emergency in March 2020. But there is little improvement to be seen. “Funding needs to come from all levels of government’ but that is the same taxpayer. Taxes are high enough. Every government program is underfunded. We cannot afford it all. Time to end some and focus on the important ones. Providing homes is not one of them. 'Gender-diverse' lol If it's anything like Vancouver homelessness is a problem that primarily afflicts men. To confirm that just go walk around after midnight and see who is sleeping rough - who is under the bridges, bushes, benches and in doorways - it's men. Been that way for many decades.
