By 2030, Starbucks is targeting 50 per cent reductions in carbon emissions, water withdrawal and waste sent to landfills

Adding whipped cream to millions of Starbucks Corp. drinks emits 50 times as much greenhouse gas as the company’s private jet. Overall, dairy products are the biggest source of carbon dioxide emissions across the coffee giant’s operations and supply chain.

Starbucks shares fell as much as 1.1 per cent to US$92.62 on Tuesday in New York trading. The stock has advanced about 6 per cent so far in 2020, double the advance of the S&P 500 Index. “While Starbucks has a long road ahead to achieve these goals, we’re encouraged that its priorities are rooted in transparent data and will be supplemented by first-of-its-kind market research,” said Allan Pearce, shareholder advocate at Trillium Asset Management.

Other chains are acting too. McDonald’s Corp. has said it aims to cut restaurant and office emissions by 36 per cent from 2015 levels through 2030. KFC and Taco Bell owner Yum! Brands Inc. is seeking a 10% average reduction per store by the end of 2025.CEO Kevin Johnson The fast-food chains start from a higher base. Each outlet was responsible for more than four times the level of carbon dioxide emissions as Starbucks stores in 2017, according to Bloomberg Intelligence.

The coffee come from Asia and the milk comes from a local source, tell me where the pollution come from. Not to mention all the consumables, cups, plastic, drive-through, etc

I’ll ditch Starbucks because I won’t be told by some corp what to ingest.

Gross get woke go broke, to hell with Starbucks

They should stop sticking those stupid plastic plugs in the drinking hole too.

Moooooooo!

Isn’t their single use cups a far bigger problem?

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤬🤬❤

Never bought alternative milk - is it cheaper or more expensive?

No way! Ditch Starbuck's first.

So, Starbucks is promoting the continuing murder of bees?

First off Starbucks coffee cups aren’t recyclable. No city takes them. They end up in the trash at the sorting stations. Sooo why not start there...

And if u cut the milk they can still fly the company jet.

Fck liberals

Starbucks don’t try to be the UN we will make our own decisions and it will probably be we won’t frequent ur locations

If I don’t get milk, I will go somewhere else for my coffee. There are other options.

A vegan food offering or two would pair well with that and is long overdue.

Save three months of your daily Starbucks and you will be able to buy a decent espresso machine. Then, you will enjoy a much better coffee any time you want, and for just pennies a day.

Let me help. No more Starbucks for me

Nothing brings out the crazies quite like talking about alternatives to cows milk. Wow 😯

This will play to their customer base... AKA: douchey urban hippies.

I hate starbucks. Tastes like tar.

Right - Starbucks wants us all to drink the poison they can buy much more cheaply from Big Food Inc than natural milk. All in the name of saving the planet. Total hypocritical BS - time to brew our own!!!

No more processed fake crap. Read about the beef industry to get the facts on climate and beef. Geez people get educated.

I’d rather ditch Starbucks

Foxtrot Oscar.

I like real milk

Bye

Note to investors ...sell sell sell. Company infected with anti-carbon climate virus.

Alternative to dairy in other words Edible Oil Products not 'milk' as the greens/vegans falsely call them. How is product of plants grown, harvested, processed more carbon friendly than cows? Just vegan agenda being pushed on people.

Hahaha! Save the planet, call Greta!

Good bye Starbucks

Can’t wait to be shamed into not having milk in my coffee. I guess more incentive to skip Starbucks and just brew my own at home.

Give me an alternative that costs the same and tastes the same and I’ll consider it. I’ve tried a bunch and was disappointed.

I’d gladly give up Starbucks before I’d ever give up cream

Guess I won’t be going there anymore if this happens. I purchase items of my choice, not theirs.

I don't order from Starbucks often but doing that would cause me never to order from them again. So I guess they don't care if I'm a customer or not

I've switched from cow's milk to soy (kirkland brand)...for coffee...I don't find any difference in taste...

GOOD. I don’t go there anyway. Their stuff sucks

At a $2.87 for a grande coffee and over $5.00 for a calorie ladened “special drink” in a non recyclable cup, I’ll pass on Starbucks Just more non sensical virtual signalling from SBUX. And they’ll piss off the dairy industry.

This ridiculous

Never drank there coffee...never will

Liberal left wing nuts running Starbucks

No thanks. I (the consumer) will choose what goes in my coffee. You either make it available, or I go elsewhere.

Stunningly stupid.

Like Almond? How about humans, can you cut down on them and leave the poor cows alone?

One way to lose money. I'm already self flagalating myself with remorse every time I buy a drink there, because of their wokeness. This will be the final nail on the coffin. Go woke go broke

No

First of all , ..... they haven’t got a a good coffee and you can pass it on to them

Overpriced. Best way to 'save' planet to close them all. If anything screams wasted energy it is Starbucks. Make own coffee at home, add some kind of fridge 'Coffee-Mate with flavour' put in thermos. Save 1000's per year and 'save your wallet'. Are you onboard, GretaThunberg?

Give oat milk a try, it’s surprisingly good. Totally Canadian product, supports our farmers, lower footprint and much less water intensive than almonds.

It’s so bizarre how aggressively possessive people get about consuming bovine breastmilk

Wow what year is this? 1984? At this rate soon there will be no dairy or beef industry left in Canada!

Higher margins through virtue signaling.

Starbucks wants to reduce its carbon footprint, perhaps not having a Starbucks on every corner might be a start 🤣😂🤣😂

That is idiotic

and the cost of a grande latte will only rise to the very competitive price of $10...I’ll keep making my coffee at home...

I dont drink milk of any kind in my coffee...but this crap has got to stop...when there is not a single starbucks product in the local landfill these idiots can go after dairy farmers...until then STFU and deal with your own carbon footprint

Do the Starbucks executives still travel in the company $65 million Gulfstream G650 jet? SMH.

Humans need dairy. Starbucks has lost my business.

So, doctors who “push” milk will be doing the same?

Is Starbucks aware that the production of almond milk is killing the bees. No bees is a far more dangerous thing.

If plant based becomes the norm will they get rid of the extra charge for it?

I just love it when global corporations teach me how to be good.

... N'importe quoi...ditch yourself...

Bye Starbucks! Enjoy your virtue signalling empty coffee shops.

I’m tired of the businesses that want you to so spend your money in their shop telling me how I should live. How about you offer a choice or we can choose to go elsewhere .

Alternatives aren’t healthy. Even the cows will be upset.

If they just closed up shop, they could do a better job in saving the planet

Another reason why I don’t buy Starbucks!

I make my coffee at home, much lower carbon footprint. They could close drive-thrus if they really want to virtue-signal 🙄

Fixed it: “Starbucks to push customers to ditch Starbucks for alternative coffee shops as it moves to focus on SJWs instead of listening to customers”. Plenty of good coffee shops out there anyway, especially the little privately owned ones.

No no the answer is cut out Starbucks. Leave the people to decide what they want to drink.

Maybe Starbucks should shut down due to its massive number of employees who use energy to commute to work.

first you have black customers arrested ? and now your trying to blame cows? for all your single use garbage I find in roadside ditches..virtue signalling...

Is this article from the Onion ?

Cut cost or carbon?

Make the drink my way - with dairy products - or dont make the drink at all as I wont purchase it.

Good luck

Silly, leave our dairy, don't eliminate our choices; too much Big Brother!

Interesting as these options all cost extra... but the latter is drinking baby cow growth serum so 🌱 all the way.

Bet they can't prove it reduces carbon dioxide. What are the emissions from producing soy milk, almond milk? And, do they not know that CO2 is not a problem...it is the basis of all of life on this earth.

Cut the disposable cups, that would have a huge effect. I get tired of picking up the garbage from their customers. Lids thrown everywhere, cups blowing around.

It would be interesting to see which of the alternative milks have the lowest carbon foot print, after processing is factored in

Ditch Starbucks for your own coffee.

Guess it’s time for me to ditch Starbucks not ingesting chemicals to stop carbon anything!! To bad it good coffee!! Bye bye now👋🏻👋🏻😐
