Ontario is going to resume standardized testing in Grades 3 and 6 this year — and has already restarted province-wide math and literacy tests in high school — to pinpoint where kids have fallen behind during the pandemic.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce made the announcement Thursday afternoon at a library in Vaughan, along with early notice for boards of funding levels for the upcoming school year of $26.1 billion — a 2.7 per cent increase — or $13,059 per student.

Two years into the pandemic, there is still very little Ontario data available on how students have fared, though research in other jurisdictions — where kids spent much less time learning online — has shown up to three months of academic losses.for kids who are struggling, as well as $174 million more to boards for tutoring — starting now — and an expanded summer school program.

Research on pandemic learning losses has been conducted at the Toronto District School Board, which found a to help schools address pandemic challenges, and found that “while all provinces and territories have detailed safety strategies for schools, few have articulated a vision or guidelines to manage, assess, or respond to the educational impact of COVID-19, and none have allocated the substantial funding true recovery and renewal will require.”

Sflecce If Lecce had a brain in his head, it would be lonely. Cancel EQAO testing...it takes away student learning time.

Sflecce 🤔 here is a cheaper data analysis a) kids are behind or b) virtual learning didn’t have negative academic impact kids did okay. All things you can twist for your own narrative. Stress kids out & spend unnecessary $$

Waste of money. My prediction is this years EQAO would be either easier or marked as such that things look great = kids are fine. Kids in my school are getting COVID. Multiple class. Keep mask mandate in school !

Hi krushowy I read this entire article and I'm confused about how you could publish something with the word 'restarting' in the headline and never specify when and why the thing being restarted was stopped?

Nothing is ever done with the test results. It's all just smoke and mirrors. Save the billions and reinvest in the education system.

Sflecce Standardized testing doesn’t help anything. You are just adding on more stress on to the kids and their teachers.

Sflecce Your child in the primary grades do not have to write EQAO. It is not a mandatory test.

What about all the kids the convoy is using as human shields? Shouldn’t they be in school? These children should be taken away from these parents ASAP. No one concerned for their children’s welfare and safety would ever do this. Arrest these parents and take these kids away.

money better spent to get music back in schools....
