Vancouver Coastal Health said Squamish patients due to give birth in early July may have to be diverted to Lions Gate Hospital, Richmond Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital or B.C. Women’s Hospital where they can get appropriate obstetrics care and oversight.
“Due to a temporary gap in coverage, VCH is implementing this interim measure to ensure those accessing maternity services continue to receive quality care and treatment, wherever they are on their maternity journey,” said the health authority in a statement.It acknowledged that the move might cause concern for moms and their families and apologized for the disruption.
Vancouver Coastal said it is working to address current staffing challenges, including targeted recruitment strategies and the redesign of staffing models.
