Some cities rethinking Canada Day parades amid rising costs, funding challenges

Several cities say the rising cost of security and insurance, in addition to troubles securing funding, is forcing them to rethink their celebrations.

"The parade receives a grant so it is very much like receiving a check for the same amount every year," he wrote in an email. "This year the funding was to go back to 2015 levels at 2022 prices." "Unfortunately, our success coupled with the many recent incidents at other parades in Canada and the United States has significantly increased the risks associated with parades and the onus on the event organizers," executive director Todd Banks wrote in a message.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, which cancelled that city's Canada Day parade in 2018 over rising prices, announced this year it would neither host a parade nor present a fireworks display, citing "rising costs for safety and security, and across the events industry," adding that it would instead focus on other events.

Do those funding challenges include the cost of increased security due to protesters? woof

Not enough money for patriotism.

But they had no problems with the porn parade for pride month 😂😂😂

A parade? Oh well! Celebrating a must! But I can see why, Trudeau has darkend our outlook on Canada. Very sad.

I support ditching the air show and non-New Years fireworks shows. Ridiculous waste of money. If you’re 40 and feel the need to see fireworks every few months than you’re pathetic.

This is the attitude when the leader of your country hates his own people.

But the month of pride parades was super important, should probably cut the national celebration instead right ?

As the media blasts peace loving Canadians for celebrating their heritage and patriotism on Canada day, they try to shame and divide through relentless media propaganda stories. Where are the journalists during all this they should be ashamed to work for such hateful companies.

No problems with other parades with the same risks. Just this particular one. Hmm...

But pride parades with naked men are fully supported by cities. Canada is F'd.

Like last two years?

If we have money for Trudeau to fly around the world drinking wine and hundreds of millions for Ukraine then we have the $$ to celebrate our nation! The division has to stop and uniting under our nation's flag is important for Canada's future

Imagine that.

But no problem with the alphabet parade.

It's also 'tell a plague toddler to FO and go away day'.

But not rethinking naked pride day for kids
