Watch onWhile it wasn’t a formal skate Monday at the Canadian Tire Centre, veteran defenceman Artem Zub was among the participants and that’s a good sign with the Los Angeles Kings coming to town Thursday night.

But Zub is feeling better and appears to be closing in on a return. This was the fifth straight day he was on the ice and that’s good news because there’s many nights he was one of the club’s most consistent defencemen. Defenceman Thomas Chabot was placed on long-term injury reserve Saturday after he broke his hand against the Islanders and Erik Brannstrom is recovering from a head injury after being stretchered off the ice.

Dorion has stated more than once “you can never have enough defencemen” so it would make sense to see what the market is like if the Senators determine they do need some help with Chabot four-to-six weeks. That’s heavy load for them but it’s early in the season and making a deal for a blueliner maybe easier said than done. It makes sense for the Senators to study the option, however, they’re not readily available.Just when you thought you had heard the last of former Ottawa winger Evgenii Dadonov and the Senators, the situation has moved to the forefront again.

Reports say the Knights were under the impression that Dadonov hadn’t entered a 10-team no trade list before the 2021-22 campaign so he no longer had one. The NHL confirmed that wasn’t the case and vetoed the deal that would have sent him the Ducks.
