In an interview on CTV’s Question Period with host Evan Solomon, Singh said he’s been looking to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to "show some leadership" on national measures to improve conditions in long-term care facilities, following two bombshell reports by the military exposing serious care concerns in select Ontario and Quebec facilities.
Trudeau and his cabinet have so far underscored their support for provinces more generally, particularly during the pandemic, but haven’t specified how they plan to move forward on long-term care. "It’s not enough for the federal government to throw up its hands and make excuses, it’s necessary for the federal government to play a role, to call for things," he said. "To say that they’re willing to establish some national standards of care guarantees.
"The reports they provided us were heartbreaking, they were horrific, it's shocking that this can happen here in Canada. It's gut-wrenching and reading those reports was the hardest thing I've done as premier," Ford told reporters.

Canada's public health care system is not broken - YET, however the 'cracks' in the system is getting wider and wider all the time and it has taken the COVID-19 pandemic to really make this apparent to the average Canadian..... .

It makes me laugh when I see the likes of NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh stand up in Canada's Parliament and say all we need to do is throw more money at the nursing homes. Money is NOT going to fix the problem. Money never has fixed the problem and it never will.... .
It has taken the COVID-19 pandemic to wake Canada up to what has been a systemic problem in our nursing homes for far too long. COVID-19 is NOT to blame for this situation, it is the inaction of provincial governments and their nursing home inspectors who have let this happen.
If in a situation where a family member must be placed in a nursing home, I should be able to go to a government website to investigate the standing of the home I am interested in having my family member placed in. Glossy nursing home brochures and websites just don't cut bait.
There should be one level of care for every Canadian who becomes a resident of any nursing home in this country. The fact a low income resident is subsidized should not mean their care is any less than the resident who is paying the full amount as the subsidy is being paid.
Maybe if and when you let parliament resume, you could ask about / discuss this issue 😡🇨🇦

I expect the federal government will help but please remind Mr. Singh that it is a provincial matter/responsibility as he cannot seem to grasp the concept.
This article really made me angry. Firstly, pumping more money into nursing homes is not going to fix the problem. Secondly, a full systems audit of nursing homes must take place. Thirdly, inspectors responsible for policing these homes must be held accountable for their reports
