It was obvious right from the first shift it was not going to be the Halifax Mooseheads' night on Friday.

The Mooseheads surrendered a goal 36 seconds into the game and then another one 10 seconds later to put them down 2-0 to the Saint John Sea Dogs with only 46 seconds ticked off the clock. By the time they made it to the first intermission, the Mooseheads were down 4-0 and the writing was on the wall. The Sea Dogs went on to win 5-2 in Saint John to keep their playoff hopes alive, while the Mooseheads now need a rapid turnaround with the QMJHL regular season wrapping up on Saturday.

The Mooseheads went into the game with six regulars out of the lineup, including three defencemen, so they had to call up Eddy Doyle and Jameson George to give them a full roster. Not dressed were: defencemen Jake Furlong, Dylan MacKinnon and David Moravec, plus forwards Lou Levesque, Braeden MacPhee and Jordan Dumais."We had guys out of the lineup and that never helps," Midgley said."But we're not looking to use that as an excuse.

Tyler Peddle, with two, Eriks Mateiko, Brody Fournier and Drew Elliott had the goals for the Sea Dogs and Liam Kilfoil and Markus Vidicek had the goals for the Mooseheads.March 22, 2024 Jack Milner got the start in the Halifax net but was replaced by Mathis Rousseau to start the second period after giving up four goals on 11 shots. Rousseau finished with 14 saves and Patrick Leaver turned aside 29 shots for Saint John."Those guys are going to be playing desperate again tomorrow," Midgley said."They're battling with Quebec for that last playoff spot so they're playing for their lives.
