owner Eugene Melnyk has pledged to provide financial support for the team’s part-time and hourly employees amid the NHL’s pause to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the team announced Monday., Melnyk has promised to compensate staff for the income they would have otherwise received while the NHL is on hiatus.

Ottawa’s part-time arena staff will be paid for shifts scheduled through April 4, the end of the NHL regular season. Belleville’s employees will receive income until April 11, the close of the AHL campaign and the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs.
