The blaze at Salt Spring Linen & Dry Cleaners, at 116 Hereford Ave., tore through the loading dock and into a second floor of the business, spreading heavy smoke through Ganges. Firefighters got the call for the fire at 1:12 a.m.
Fire Chief Jamie Holmes said the first crew attacked the fire from the exterior to slow the spread of flames. When additional on-call firefighters arrived with a tender and engine, they attacked the interior to extinguish the fire and search the building.The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Holmes said initial assessments did not find anything suspicious.“The crews did an amazing job,” said Holmes.
