“I do think that the communication with today’s younger player is really important. They have to know where they stand,” Huska told Aaron Wilbur, founder of The Coaches Site, last month. “I think the worst thing you can do for a younger player is have them leaving the rink really not knowing what’s expected of them. You always want to have the player feel good about themselves. You want to leave them in a situation where they have lots of confidence, but they have to be held accountable.
Huska was head coach of the Flames’ AHL-affiliate — the Stockton Heat — for a four-season stint from 2014-18, helping to prepare the likes of Rasmus Andersson, Oliver Kylington and Andrew Mangiapane to become key contributors for the big-league Flames at the Saddledome. He also aided the ascent of the likes of Micheal Ferland, Garnet Hathaway, Brett Kulak and Ryan Lomberg.
