Road Trip: Calls for government-mandated drug testing for commercial drivers amid legalization of edibles via TheGrowthOp

This story is part of The GrowthOp’s Road Trip series, which focuses on the intersection between the legalization of cannabis edibles and other products on Oct. 17 and driving while under the influence.

“This is all about safety, we feel very strongly that operating a commercial vehicle on roadways comes with added responsibility,” he said in a phone interview.“With that, things like comprehensive drug and alcohol testing goes hand in hand.” Safety versus privacyAlthough Ontario Provincial Police told the GrowthOp having the laws would be beneficial, Canada has no drug-testing in place because it could infringe on one’s right to privacy. The government of Saskatchewan notes the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects citizens from unreasonable search and seizure.

He points to the Toronto Transit Commission, which implemented random alcohol and drug testing in 2017 after showing a growing number of positive drug tests and proving a potential risk to staff and the public. South of the border, agencies like the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration require commercial drivers to undergo pre-employment, random and post-incident drug testing.

Greyhound Lines, a coach bus company, declined an interview request from The GrowthOp, but wrote in an e-mail that all drivers are also subject to the FMCSA.

TheGrowthOp Um, the legalization of weed does NOT negate the requirement for drug testing. If that were remotely true then alcohol DUI tests would have to be dropped. A driver really can eat his/her way to Stonerville. Carry on testing.

TheGrowthOp Cops now have the Neuralyzer from Men in Black.

TheGrowthOp “Legalization”

TheGrowthOp How do they suppose theyll implement such a violation if peoples lives? Piss tests detect THC for months. Just because someones a driver they cant ever eat weed? How about cops? They drive a lot too. Next is anyone who commutes more that 20km to work a day? Highway checkpoints?

TheGrowthOp All airline pilots should be tested before flight ✈️......Can’t believe they are still not....drug/alcohol testing needs to be implemented!

TheGrowthOp Oh that couldn't be more stupid. You know we've been using cannabis here safely for, well, ever... and we are quite as stupid or ridiculous as our corrupt JustinTrudeau gov thinks, we learned how to bake shit ourselves. This is just stupid shit..they know it doesn't impair u
