There is nothing so seductive to a politician than the prospect of easy victory

It’s not Newton level — you know, apple, gravity, laws of planetary motion. But it can hold its own. Here it is.The wisdom contained in that axiom is almost too much to bear. And to think it came in such a sudden flash. Perhaps prompted by a lurking memory of my own dear province, run by a doctor no less, which held an election in February, and that doleful, embarrassing experience.

Any activity that involved contact, any large gatherings, any outside mingling for whatever reason — even prayer — should and must be avoided at all costs. Stay in, stay alone. In the same spirit the country, save for absolute reasons, was locked down, with businesses ruined and people made to endure anxiety as a result of lack of social contact.

The question is even more poignant when he already has, as a minority government, more sway, more latitude, and more security to do what he wants, without stay or let, than perhaps any other minority government in our history. There have been coalition governments before, but these were time-limited, bristly with conditions to coral the larger party, and guarantees of what would or would not be put before Parliament.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh meets with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Parliament Hill in a file photo from Nov. 14, 2019.The two of them could not be closer if they had fallen into a vat full of super-glue. It is this immersive compact that has given the Liberals the licence to act as they wish without any boundaries. To ignore scandals, to spend as with a high-pressure fire hose, to eviscerate Parliament, and to ride for two whole years without a budget.

So go now, while you can, could be the imperative to chance an election while COVID is still active, despite all the contradictions that such an election call would entail.Perhaps, too, there is even a stronger, even more tactical motivation. Long ago Jean Chrétien called a premature election, because a then freshman Opposition leader, Stockwell Day, was so new to Ottawa he couldn’t find the Chateau Laurier.

And yet, Erin O'Toole was the one voting for an election this week, not PM Trudeau. Reality much, Rex?

So far the PM has been 'resisting' with a stoicism worthy of legend. Don't you have anything else to do but speculate endlessly? Pundits are a useless nattering class that has replaced journalism.

It's not an ideal time for Postmedia to terminate Rex Murphy. The ideal time for that would have been years ago, even before CBC turfed him. But better late than never! Rex, OUT.

He had better resist, if not he will certainly lose votes.

Strike while the competition is weak

Bait and tackle by the opposition Rex ,you know what thats like, your a master at it!

Poor Rex. We know he doesnt want an election. The conservatives will lose bigly. Thats the whole point of this article - make canadians upset if theres an election that conservatives are guaranteed to lose.

Cons would have forced an election last year in the middle of it had they had Lib numbers then. We'd already be at the poles now if they had Lib 's now. Cons don't wait...they strike. They only bitch and moan when they are O'Toole numbers away from winning.

The conservative politics machine (including the ) has been screaming about how corrupt the PM is from day 1 yet somehow hes the one bucking for the election? Sure🤣

Rex Murphy keeps himself alive by drinking the blood of young beavers.

I hope he wins too.. the tool guy is Trudeau anyway. When this economy crashes it's only fitting Trudeau get the full blame

It's been over a decade since anyone cared what Rex Murphy thinks.

Huh? Really? Countries all over world have held elections over the last 12 months

Even though it's the Conservatives constantly talking about calling an election? Ya'll really want to lose that badly?
