” campaign ahead of the September 1 sugar tax, but the Retail Council of Canada believes government’s messaging may be too little too late for its members.
He says that’s problematic because retailers will want to use that government messaging in store in various ways to let customers know about what they will be paying. He says that takes some time to do, and he’s afraid that government has waited so long that many members will not have in-store advertising ready for September 1.
He cites some of the more technical questions such as if a drink product is included in a gift basket, does the sugar tax have to be applied? Cormier says there are a lot of questions, but not a lot of clear answers. He calls the campaign an attempt for the government to justify their “latest tax grab.”
I was a kid in the 70s, yep, lots of sugar, not an extra pound on me! coady you're full of shite, almost as much as furey!
More liberal garbage
Just take them off the market if they are that unhealthy like cigarettes should be taken off the market
Opposition critic Tony Wakeham is correct.
I'm just curious on who pays the Tax ? Does the REtail business pay the tax when they buy from their suppliers ? And then do they charge the tax to the customer when they sell the products ? If so, the same product is double Taxed .
Ridiculous. No other provinces do this. All liberals do is TAX, TAX, TAX everything.
Govt's, provincial and Federal should be seeking to stop Carbon Taxes and fighting inflation caused by Liberals, like increasing Gas and Oil production giving consumers a break at the pumps.
Have they said where this new money collected will go? Or will it just be misspent and squandered into some new Nalcor project or another corporation's project?
I'm not against cutting down the public's intake of sugar at all. But GovNL tried the same thing with alcohol. The result was that people drank just as much and NLC made record profits. How is this not a cash grab?
If only people would be so upset about every other tax thrown at us as they are over the Pepsi tax
Just another money grab.... im surprised they arent taxing the air we breathe yet!!!
I rethought about it and decided that im still buying pepsi what a waste of time and money the government has put into this.
SUE the govt
