Rescuers shouted "God is great" and hugged each other on Friday after freeing a woman who was trapped for five days in the rubble of a collapsed apartment building in earthquake-ravaged Turkey.CBC NewsWatch the moment a woman is rescued from rubble in TurkeyCBC News reporter Briar Stewart is at the scene as rescue crews, with help from a Canadian team, extract a woman trapped for days under a collapsed building in Adiyaman, Turkey.

The woman was trapped under a door in the building in an air pocket, which allowed rescuers to talk to her and provide food and water. The Burnaby Urban Search and Rescue Team, volunteers who flew into Turkey on Tuesday after getting the green light from the Turkish consulate in Vancouver, was also on the scene. The team brought high-tech cameras and other equipment to help find survivors.

"It's incredible," he said of the rescue. "It's such a rare event that you have someone who can survive these conditions." The building was only 200 metres from the Mediterranean Sea and narrowly avoided being flooded when the massive earthquake sent water surging into the city centre. The rescues Friday provided fleeting moments of joy and relief amid the misery and hardship gripping the shattered region, where morgues and cemeteries are overwhelmed and bodies lie wrapped in blankets, rugs and tarps in the streets of some cities.

One could also posit that God is the one that caused the earthquake.

It's actually Gretzky. People get those two confused all the time. They are very similar; the main difference being that Gretzky exists.

Because 'He/She/It/Flying Spaghetti Monster' helped out with the digging. 🙄

If this so-called god was so great, why did over 15000 have to die.

Lol crazy people, yes God is great, implying God saved a life….after dropping the building on their heads ?

God is pretty busy right now answering the prayers of football players getting ready for the Super Bowl. She’s lucky that he had time for her.

God is great. Only 20,000 and counting deaths.

Yes. A terrible tragedy has happened. Seems like about 95% of people only call on God when they're in trouble. I will praise him in the midst of the/my trouble. Great is God for sending his Son to paid the debt of my sin. And whoever else will call on him?

Yes, the same God who caused (or allowed) the earthquake that killed over $20k people. So much greatness. woof

It was so nice of God to keep that woman alive after tens of thousands just died. God is great!

Praise god for sparing the life of one person but not condemn him for killing hundreds.

'God is great! He let this building fall on you, trap you for five days, and then didn't kill you so that rescuers could come. Oh yeah, he also let 20,000 people die. But GOD IS GREAT!!!!'

Canadian assessment team deployed to Turkey as earthquake rescue efforts closeThe deployment consists of military and Global Affairs officials and would determine how Canada can contribute to earthquake relief efforts Sadly, Canada’s lack of a response (apart from the donation of cash) to this shocking disaster is nothing new. Trudeau sees Canada as having next to no role in the world; he’s more than happy to let other countries do the heavy lifting. Canada is nothing short of embarrassing. Canada as usual the Valium of the world after so many days just sending an 'assessment' team. Taiwan & China entire rescue contingents arrived the day after the earthquakes. Prayers for the families of lost ones.
