The NBA and NBPA's deadline to terminate the collective bargaining agreement has reportedly been extended to Nov. 9.

for Friday at midnight Eastern Time but has been extended multiple times since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March. If either side chooses to invoke the opt-out clause, the current CBA will be terminated in mid-December, just days before the league’s planned return to play.

On Thursday, the NBPA player leadership voted to tentatively accept the league’s plan to start the 2020-21 season on Dec. 22, with training camps opening Dec. 1 and each team playing 72 games. Despite that agreement, the two sides continue to negotiate other details including escrow payments, the salary cap ceiling and important dates on the calendar. Before play can resume, the CBA will need to be adjusted to reflect the many rule changes agreed upon, giving the negotiations some urgency.
