The last time the Kentucky Derby didn’t run in its annual May slot was during the final year of World War II.

The Kentucky Derby will reportedly not run on the first weekend of May for the first time since 1945, according to theAn official announcement is expected to be made Tuesday morning.

There is no word yet on how the rescheduling would impact the other two legs of the prestigious Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore and the Belmont in New York. The Preakness typically runs on the third Saturday in May and the Belmont three Saturdays after that in early June.reports that the opening of the stables at Churchill Downs has been pushed back until March 31.

The last time the Kentucky Derby didn’t run in its annual May slot was during the final year of World War II, due to a government ban on horse racing. The race ran on June 9 that year, shortly after the war had ended.
