B.C. MP Mark Strahl made the unsubstantiated claim Sunday night that a constituent had their bank account frozen for a $50 protest contribution

The RCMP, banking sector and federal government said Monday that account-freezing powers bestowed by the Emergencies Act to deal with convoy protesters do not affect donors, despite unsubstantiated claims by a Conservative MP that a constituent had their bank account frozen for a $50 protest contribution.

The RCMP issued a statement soon after, clarifying the extent of law enforcement’s financial tracking since the Emergencies Act was invoked on Feb. 14. “At no time, did we provide a list of donors to financial institutions,” the statement read. “We are now working with the banks to build a process to address the accounts that were frozen.”

Mr. Strahl did not respond to a comment request, and tweeted that he refused to share any further details of the case with media, citing privacy reasons. But a widely circulated leaked list of donors searched by The Globe and Mail does not contain anyone named Briane. As of early Monday afternoon, the federal Department of Finance said the move froze 206 bank accounts and $7.48-million, while $1.2-million in cryptocurrency assets were affected.

This is BS....has already happened.

Ive seen many protests in Canada but never before have I seen one that had so many people rallying behind it with actual belief that it threatened a weak leader so much as to seize accounts, protests are supposed to be heard not stomped out and this only makes it worse

They can't do it without your bank info which can't even be hacked from a donation website. Other information can be and that's what security leaks are but other than that your account is secure. They only freeze bank accounts of people receiving social assistance.

You aren’t required to write press releases to get your subsidy…right?

If donations supported the blockades after they were deemed illegal, then they should at least pay a fine. Support for illegal blockades and protesters who were advocating overthrow of the government should be punished. At the very least! Come on people, or you’re asking for more

Shocking that conservatives would lie and engage and fear-mongering like this

It is too bad. I was so looking for the people of Ottawa getting compensation for the suffering they endured!

what did the deputy PM said?

So the PM lied? Nooooo

The new base camp for illegal protesters is located on a farm field in Embrun at the intersection of St. Guillame and Route 200, just five kilometres south of Highway 417. Michel Dignard is the property owner and the publicly listed number for his commercial farm is 613-443-2671

I believe some of them already have...

Toronto Police Mounted Unit means business. 💪👍 She was trampled by unnecessary forces. Horses are used to break up a crowd during a riot. Sad day in history indeed. The best part was they were told to leave the area for days and then they still get trampled.
