Kyle Lowry was looking for money, term and the ability to have some control over his destiny as he heads into the final stages of his remarkable NBA career. Well, one out of three ain’t bad, writes michaelgrange.

was looking for money, term and the ability to have some control over his destiny as he heads into the final stages of his remarkable NBA career.point guard’s slow-motion, low-key contract impasse with the NBA’s defending champions.

On cue, Lowry didn’t participate in training camp and had already ruled himself out of Toronto’s pair of exhibition games in Tokyo against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. But even with that appreciation, Ujiri wasn’t going to give Lowry the multi-year extension – three years was the dream scenario – he was angling for when the two sides began talking earlier this summer. As much as Lowry is determined to do the work to extend his career into his late thirties, Ujiri did not want to bet big money on Lowry remaining at an all-star level beyond his age-35 season.

michaelgrange Considering that Masai has attempted to trade him like a thousand times, I cannot blame Kyle for looking after himself.

michaelgrange If this is all true, I think this just further solidifies how good of a deal it was for Toronto. Obviously gives them more cap flexibility in 2021, but avoiding any drama and the headache of having to move him to a destination that he desires is a bonus.

michaelgrange So predictions from unnamed sources are worth writing about now? You were better off not including that in this article.

michaelgrange Grange stiring shit again with Lowry.....why?

michaelgrange It’s basically 3 for 3 since it adds a 4th year to his 3 yr deal. He’ll be 35 when this deal runs out, and regardless he was going to either end his career here or closer to Philly. His last deal will be in the 3 yr 30-40mil range.
