Kawhi Leonard won't play tonight when the Raptors take on the Pistons.

From Raptors: Kawhi Leonard is OUT today vs DetroitToronto has stuck with their season-long plan to give their star off-season acquisition as much rest as possible, in the hopes of keeping him fresh and healthy for the playoffs.

The 2014 Finals MVP missed all but nine games for the San Antonio Spurs last season due to a quadriceps injury. This season, the Raptors have gone 13-4 without Leonard in the lineup. Leonard hit a game-winning fadeaway jumper in the final seconds of the Raptors’ last game against the Portland Trail Blazers and has enjoyed a resurgent campaign so far, posting a career-high 27 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 46 appearances.

michaelgrange All you haters calling him to play would be the first ones bitching if he's injured in a meaningless game. The 2 seed is pretty close to clinched, if things stay the way they are, bucks would have to play the winner of Sixers/Celtics, what else do u want?

Can someone tell me why broken body Leonard can't play AGAIN? What a stupid ass trade. we gave away something for nothing but a part timer.

michaelgrange Have your warm milk and cuddle with your teddy bear

FAN590 Load management

how much is he getting paid to sit 1/2 the time

People still mad about Kawhi sitting games? Call him all you want but I’m all for him sitting out games against weak opponents. The man comes to play hard against strong teams plus he needs to be rested for our big national TV game on Tuesday. Stop complaining and enjoy this ride

Come playoffs does Leonard get load management days off? One would think the days off in between games should suffice for most players because the NBA playoffs go on forever

He’ll be well rested for next year in LA

any of you clowns trashing him actually watch the games? hes been banged up a bit this year and last game it looked like he tweaked his shoulder towsrds the end of the game . just relax and let him rest. they play well without him anyways

CityNews I have no issues with this whatsoever. A 35 point performance by kawhi in a victory over the pistons in a regular season game isn't gonna mean anything in May. Keep your eyes on the prize

Is this normal for a guy coming off an injury from the year before ? I know the 76ers dis something similar with Embiid. But this seems extreme

FAN590 This is getting tiring. Honest. When does he expect to build up his stamina for a 7 game series that would likely happen over 11-13 days

This isn’t going to look good when that fall in playoffs because the offence doesn’t mesh well with him playing

I’m not worried, we have this guy👇🏻 Klow7

As a hockey guy I can't wrap my head around that a player who is paid to play and perform for 80+ games in a regular season needs to 'rest' as much as these NBA players do(not all, just the privileged few I might add) is quite laughable. Forfeit pay for games sat, this would end..

1 game a week....this team has played 2/3 games as a full squad all year....they want to finish 2nd I guess.....finishing 1st gives you Celtics or Sixers in 2nd round as it stands..

CityNews There's no need for him to play against the Pistons. They're trash. We're making a run for the finals, that's over 100 games & Kawhi's coming off a chronic injury & missing a whole season. Just watch what happens to James Harden. He'll burn out again, come playoffs.

Regular season means squat. But he better perform when it counts!

Part-time player

What a joke

Who are the raptors?

CityNews Wish I could get a part time job like that.

Another 2 jersey getting paid to not play in Toronto. He’s probably chillin with Tulo

FAN590 You guys are all bums. Reg season doesn’t matter one bit. Open your eyes, look at the bigger picture

We have Siakam though

Ticket holders should be given partial refunds. It’s outrageous to pay 💰 and be shortchanged for anything other than injury. NBA Raptors

Softest player in the league

HEALTHY RUN FOR PLAYOFFS OR GAME 62 OF THE SEASON YALL CHOOSE RAPS NEED KAWHI FOR PLAYOFFS NOTHIN ELSE MATTERS

CityNews What a pity!

Do you sign a player long term who needs this much rest in order to keep healthy for playoffs? At age 27?

Pathetic.

Damn was looking forward to watching him play too

Great player, I know playoffs important but cmon with all star game and rest barely played in last 3 weeks

Keep him healthy for the playoffs

So SN are you serious

This is getting to be a joke.

Terrence Ross has 28 points to lead Magic past Raptors - Sportsnet.caFormer Raptor Terrence Ross scored 28 points to lead the Orlando Magic to a 113-98 victory over a sluggish Toronto team missing Kawhi Leonard on Sunday. Mailed that one in. Resigned to be the 2nd seed. They will never be a power house till they learn to beat teams beneath them. Can’t blame coaching for that. It is up to players to stay motivated towards a championship.
