Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet missed out on the NBA All-Defensive teams by one spot.

did not make one of the NBA’s two All-Defensive Teams, missing out by just one spot in the voting.

The first team is headlined by Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart, along with Mikal Bridges, Rudy Gobert, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jaren Jackson Jr. The second team includes Bam Adebayo, Jrue Holiday, Matisse Thybulle, Robert Williams III and Draymond Green. VanVleet received two first-team votes and 37 second-team votes for 41 total points — 46 points behind Thybulle, who earned the last guard spot. Overall, VanVleet earned the most points of any player not to make one of the teams, even earning more than Green, who made the second team since he’s a forward.

Fellow Raptor Scottie Barnes earned two second-team votes while OG Anunoby received one. The full results can be foundIn 65 games this season, VanVleet often guarded the opposing team’s best point guard for the Raptors’ No. 5 defence. He also averaged 1.7 steals per game.
