The Giants were cut down to size on the road by the WHL’s top-ranked team in Game 2 of their championship series

The Vancouver Giants’ dreams of a road sweep to start the WHL championship series didn’t last all that long Saturday.

Vancouver won the opener 5-4 Friday at Art Hauser, so the Giants and Raiders are knotted at 1-1 in the best-of-seven finals heading into three straight games at the Langley Events Centre beginning on Tuesday. Vancouver is in the WHL final for the first time since 2006-07, when they lost in seven games to the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Giants were hosting the Memorial Cup national tournament that spring and they beat Medicine Hat in the Canadian title tilt.

Prince Albert finished atop the WHL regular season standings. The Giants were the runners-up, 11 points back.Here’s what else we learned Saturday. His best stop may have been smothering a Milos Roman try from the deep slot at the 0:49 mark of the third period.Defensive droughtSergei Sapego’s goal, which gave Prince Albert a 2-0 lead at 7:43 of the second period, was his third of these playoffs, but just the sixth midway through the fourth round of the postseason by a Raiders defenceman.
