The Crown was seeking a 17-year sentence for the Quebec man found guilty of charges including kidnapping, extortion and conspiracy to kidnap

A Quebec man found guilty in the 2020 kidnapping of a couple from Upstate New York has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

The Crown was seeking a 17-year sentence for Arnold, who was found guilty by a jury in February of five charges, including kidnapping, extortion and conspiracy to kidnap. The defence had been seeking 10 years in prison for Arnold, who argued during his trial that he had acted under threats and did not know anything about a kidnap plot.

Quebec judge grants injunction halting eviction of homeless camp living under highwayQuebec's Superior Court has granted a temporary 10-day injunction to halt the dismantling and displacement of a long-standing homeless encampment located under a major Montreal highway. rexglacer We need to get back to rule of law and judges to rule favouring enforcing those laws. Conservatve voters create homelessness, then they complain if they see them. Good people don't do these things. City should move those homeless to live in front of judge’s house. Problem solved.

Opinion | Quebec wrong to attack school prayer rooms, which offer refuge from harassmentQuebec Education Minister Bernard Drainville’s recent edict to ban prayer spaces in Quebec schools, once again demonstrates the Islamophobic posturing of Quebec political elites. Opinion by Naved Bakali I support banning all religious activities in all public funded schools. Fake concern about Islam, is now raising awareness that the PQ taxpayers are paying for space for all religious activity ,,,, except Muslims. A clear violation of Sect 15 of Statute of Rights & Freedoms. All or none, make a decision and stick with it Why should they provide special spaces? Does any business with muslim employees do that?
