Controversial bill passed by a vote of 78-29, with the opposition Liberals and Parti Quebecois opposing it

The Quebec legislature voted today to adopt Bill 96, the Coalition Avenir Quebec government’s language reform.

Premier Francois Legault told reporters after the vote that the law is moderate, striking a balance between the positions of the Liberals and the PQ.

As he has refrained from forcing those with a mother tongue other than French to attend reeducation camps he considers this « moderate »…
