Quebec filmmaker Sophie Deraspe’s Antigone is Canada's selection for the Oscars via nparts

Quebec filmmaker Sophie Deraspe’s new movie Antigone will represent Canada at the next Academy Awards in the newly renamed Best International Feature Film category. It was previously called Best Foreign-Language Film, but in April the Academy decided that “foreign” sounded too negative. The rules – a non-English-language film originating outside the U.S. – remain the same.

Antigone will open in Quebec on Nov. 6, but it remains to be seen if the film will play widely in the rest of Canada. Neither last year’s Oscar submission, Family First , nor the previous year’s Hochelaga, Land of Souls , was screened much outside the province, except at selected festivals.

Puff luck: Provincial pot websites have hugely uneven supply and selection - Macleans.caOur survey of the sites found ridiculously irregular inventory across the country, reflecting problems in the market as a whole Of course there's irregularities across the country, its provincial jurisdiction... There is not “one market as a whole” in Canada. There are separate provincial jurisdictions with each their own market and issues. Some of these problems caused by politicians who did not want to implement the law. The whole thing they call legalization is a joke. A clear reflection of Government today. Canadian Citizens did not need endless legislative red tape for a market that would have flourished.
