Puerto Ricans poured into the streets of San Juan on Monday calling for the resignation of Gov. Wanda Vazquez after Hurricane Maria supplies were found in a warehouse over the weekend in the city of Ponce.

Officials in Puerto Rico began distributing the Hurricane Maria supplies Monday, according to Maj. Gen. Jose J. Reyes, the adjutant general of the Puerto Rico National Guard.

"Most of the water here and baby formula is outdated. There are cots, camping stoves, blue tarps," Reyes said. "The expired items will be disposed of."

Natural Disaster Calls Could Hurt The Army’s Ability To Fight: Commander“If this becomes of a larger scale, more frequent basis, it will start to affect our readiness” Dealing with natural disasters and aid to the civil power both in Canada and abroad will probably become the military’s top priority due to the existential threat of human caused climate breakdown with a need for more resources to be focused on this threat. The number of troops logically has to go up, both RegForce and Reserves. Raising another brigade group for Atlantic Canada - 3CMBG - is the way to go. What a crock!

Growing natural-disaster response risks dulling Army’s fighting edge, commander saysAn analysis by The Canadian Press last May showed the military had been asked to help with 10 weather-related disasters over the previous two years. That’s compared to 20 such calls between 2007 and 2016 Well that's a shame, because given the deteriorating mood here in st. John's, they may well need it in their snowclearing efforts. Yes, I can see how also skills required in emergency response like logistical coordination of supply lines and manpower, rapid preparation of defense positions, interacting with affected civilian populations, not to mention the physical exercise, would be useless to military So is this a govt hint further down the road they will cut off military help in emergencies here in Canada?

Growing natural-disaster response risks dulling Army's fighting edge: CommanderCanada's top soldier is warning that as the Army gets called out to a growing number of floods, wildfires and other natural disasters, there is a risk that work will hurt the force's ability to defend the country. It may be time for the feds to stand up a new organization; meaning deployable resources, not just a managment centre; that is specially trained to deal with natural disasters. Our lack of funding for keeping our military modern is the fault of...climate change. Bravo
